The Boys Bathroom… a torture to clean!

I bet you WISH you had my ‘outfit’ the next time you clean YOUR boy’s bathroom!

Sometimes I feel like a huge cosmic joke is constantly being played on me, and it’s usually when I have to clean the BOYS bathroom in our home.  Yes, that’s right, our bathrooms are segregated.  Why?  Have you EVER been to use the toilet after a boy?
No?  Try this… go to your toilet, and sprinkle a little water on the toilet seat.  About halfway back on both sides… now sit… and read a minute… now get up, and pull up your pants.  Go ahead, try it!!   Don’t worry… we’ll wait.   (insert elevator music here)

Done?  Yeah… now you know.  It’s GROSS.  This icky wet feeling.  It’s worse knowing that it’s your child’s (or husband, if you make him use the boy’s bathroom too!) pee.
After years of having 1 toilet, I LOVE having my own.  Yes, my own bathroom.  I am the only girl in the house, and my husband will usually use the boy’s bathroom unless necessary.  It’s wonderful.  Except when it’s time to clean the boy’s bathroom.  Unfortunately, it won’t get done to my standards unless I do it myself.  But it is NOT a job I revel, nor is it one that I take lightly.  I try not to do it too often (no, it is NOT a daily chore..sorry… if you’re going to pee on/around the toilet seat, you will deal with it yourself!  I’ve had son’s now for nearly 15 years, and “toilet-pee’rs” for 12ish, so I’ve got experience with it.   So you’re saying, ‘well I have boys, and I don’t have that problem’.  LIAR!!!  I’m sorry, but if you have boys, YOU WILL have dealt with pee on the seat.  Maybe you have them trained well enough to wipe it off, or perhaps you’re cruel and make them sit to pee… but you HAVE dealt with it.  I don’t know what extremes you’ve gone to in an effort to erase it from your memory… hypnotherapy, severe brain overload, or just mommy brain fog, but it DID happen.  Perhaps it’s SO horrid in your mind that, in cases of PTSD, you’re brain simply chose to block it out.  If this is the case, you’re LUCKY.  Trust me.

So today is toilet cleaning day.  I’m going to save you the horrible, brain searing miserable-ness of seeing a boy’s toilet.  Today.

Tell me… what’s your WORST bathroom experience?

  1. Yuck--LOL! My worst bathroom experience involves our oldest son. I had the boys pretty well-trained about cleaning up after themselves--until the oldest went away to college and came home a human pig. Seriously, the first time I went in his bathroom after he came home for the summer I let it be known that he was in charge of cleaning his bathroom, because it was foul. I believe I might have threatened cutting him off of dinner unless he made sure to change his ways! I'm sorry, but there's no excuse for an adult man to behave like the bathroom is an outhouse. Little guys, I get it--but they can still wipe it up. Boys are just yucky! ;-)

  2. Yuck! Gross! LOL!! Thankfully I don't have children, and the husband's been - ahem! - "trained" on his to use the toilet ;-)

  3. So true! Though we share 1 bathroom but the boys in the house know to life the seat! Why is it that we're often the ones stuck with bathroom duty?!

  4. LOL! Yup! I've got two boys. Totally gross. Wish I could have my OWN bathroom...lucky you! We've most definitely had pee on the floor. Several times. My guys DO put the seat up at least. But that doesn't mean it doesn't get peed on anyways. Our youngest (almost 7 now) doesn't pay very close attention to what he's doing at least half the time. Ugh. So my bathroom has a perpetual pee smell. Even when I've cleaned it I can still smell it, but maybe that's partly because I don't like chemical cleaners. Once they're grown up and have moved out I'll get it sanitized!!! :)

  5. Gross, but probably very true for boys, especially the younger boys. Lol! Made me laugh that you have a seperate bathroom for the boys!! Great blog, very well organized. I just found it today, I'm glad I did.

  6. I hate it! Constant complaining helped in my case - I guess he now prefers to clean it himself instead of hearing my angry voice. He's 6 years old. :)

    1. LUCKY YOU!!! I can't get my 15yr old to clean the bathroom... heck, I can't even get my HUSBAND to!! I'm lucky if they wipe the toilet seat after peeing..but I've got one for them... I'm going to be reviewing this thing called the Shandle.. it's a toilet seat lifting device, so stay tuned!!!!

  7. Yuck! Now I'm extra thankful to have a daughter. ;) I love your cleaning outfit, how funny! At least you have your own bathroom to retreat to after cleaning the boys' potty. :)

  8. Lol! Well, I have 3 girls, but the bathrooms still can get yucky. I will admit though, my husband makes a bigger mess than us 4 girls combined!!

  9. Haha! Wow, that outfit alone says everything! I'm so grateful that I don't have any boys to clean after.

  10. Funny. My boy is still pretty small, so my biggest issues are the counter - how can the kids get so much toothpaste everywhere???

  11. Well, I have 2 girls, and they STILL manage to drip pee on the seat, and don't wipe it up, no matter how many times I tell them to. Usually I see it before I sit down, but then I have to yell at the kids for not wiping it up. I have resorted to making them come and wipe it up before I sit down a few times, but I have had to wipe it myself more times than I can count!

  12. My worse experience is just like yours. Just awful. I can't figure out for the life of me how pee gets on the seat! My son is almost at the age and I plan on teaching him how to thoroughly clean his bathroom the way I like. I feel sorry for his sister because she has to share the bathroom with him.

  13. I feel the same. Love your outfit in the picture. It is totally appropriate for bathroom cleaning. I don't understand how they can just go all over. I have started making my husband and son clean the bathroom, so hopefully it will improve!

  14. Oh no! My little boy (age 2) just learned to use the toilet. I'm not looking forward to the years ahead. :)

  15. LOL!!! It's too funny! I only have had daughters and, at the moment, no man living here so, I guess I'm lucky!! :-) Thank You for the laugh, I needed it!

  16. LOL!! Yes, I've had to train my girls to look at the seat before sitting down. Though my son is well behaved, he still forgets to lift the seat to pee. So, yes, cleaning up after a boy or more is gross. Hoping one day he will grow out of it. ;-)

  17. lol, I have 3 sons and my real problem is he fact that they miss the toilet all together. I try to encourage them to sit the same way their Dad does.

  18. Oh gosh, this is bringing me back to my teenage days when I was a manager at a local gas station. I always made whatever guy was working clean the mens bathroom. It was the worst!!

  19. Oh, I hear you, sister. I only have one boy, but I babysit for a second one, and my husband is 6'5" so he "misses" too often, in my opinion. I hate cleaning the bathroom!!!

  20. Oh now I know what I have to look forward to with my son!!!

  21. Dh is the only male in our house and he's good about putting the seat. Doesn't put it down, but I can live with that. I stayed with a friend of mine for a while and she had nine boys and none of them lifted the seat. After that, I can deal with having it left up!

  22. It ate my comment - trying again!
I can TOTALLY relate to this! I grew up with brothers and HATED sharing the bathroom with them. Luckily, my hubby is much cleaner. Now, for my worst bathroom experience, it was actually when I was in the hospital on bed rest - and I just wrote a book about it and included a whole chapter! LOL.

  23. Only one boy in my house and a male cat. Luckily, both are pretty good about cleaning up after themselves. Somehow my man does the bathroom cleaning? I don't know how I lucked out, but I appreciate it for sure!

  24. My worst bathroom experiences were in college, so I feel like I can handle anything! I do clean our bathrooms daily, so they don't get too bad.

  25. My boyfriend is pretty good about bathroom etiquette but his friends are another story... We have everyone over every Sunday for game night and I walked into the bathroom and stepped in PEE. Really! So glad I had socks on. I made a big deal out of it. I was pretty grossed out.

  26. So far, I am outranked in the household by 2 boys. I am potty training my little 2 year old and, well, yes, I have to do a constant cleaning of the potty. What's with boys!! Goodness!

  27. I feel you. I like your bathroom cleaning outfit too. I too am outnumbered but I don't have the option of a separate bathroom but I would if I could.

I hate that aspect of using a bathroom with boys and cleaning a bathroom with boys (urine on the floor, the stink that never seems to go away no matter how you clean) but I think I hate going to the toilet at night, sitting to go pee, and screaming because someone left the toilet seat up. UGH

  28. My oldest son was not so bad, but my youngest...OMG! I STILL hate having to use the bathroom after him and he is MARRIED and only comes over on holidays. Now...I have Windex Antibacterial in the bathroom and inform every man that goes in there to take a piece of toilet paper, pumps twice and wipe! Works like a charm!

  29. I think she should teach your husband and sons how to clean "their" bathroom to your standards. ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  30. Yes. My son's bathroom is the bane of my existence. Why are boys so gross?!? Oh well...we love them anyway! :)

    ReplyDelete
  31. My son is only 2 and is still in diapers, so I don't have to clean the boys bathroom yet. I know my days is coming though! Gross!

    ReplyDelete
  32. LOL - love your toilet cleaning outfit. I am soooo glad I don't have to put up with tinkle toilet seats. Thank goodness!

The worst toilet disasters I've had to clean is 1) backed up poo poo toilet aftermath, 2) the aftermath of a house guest with Crohn's Disease, and 3) explosive Taco Bell night diarrhea

THAT was probably too much information...

  33. Oh man.... I can tell SUCH a difference in my bathroom from when my nephews are here all day in the summer, to when they're only here before and after school. Cleaning a "boy" bathroom is NO fun!! Lol.
