Childhood is Only Temporary- Honoring Gavin Leong

CHILDHOOD IS ONLY TEMPORARY
These letters are red and blue, for Gavin and Brian.

Childhood is only temporary.

Please let these words sink in your head, into the recesses of your brain.
Stop for a minute, and think about it.

I have a tendancy to get easily upset with my son, L.S.  He is 7, but emotionally and socially, is only about 4.  However, intellectually, he's more like 10.  He is a VERY smart child.  Because he's so smart, I tend to treat him like the 10yr old, and forget that he's only 7.

Today, in honor of Gavin David Leong

I plan on working harder at appreciating my child, knowing my child, understanding my child, and not getting so frustrated with my child.

I realize what some of you are thinking... especially those of you without children, or who have such perfect children that you'd NEVER even imagine getting frustrated with them.
Or perhaps you're just the type of person who doesn't get frustrated....

I am.

Today, I cried for Kate & Ed Leong, and their sons, Brian and Gavin.

Gavin was 5 1/2 when he left this week to be with God.
On Wednesday, Gavin saved a 40 year old man's life.
That is why he is Gavin the SuperHero.
Gavin's 2 kidneys are now this man's, and Gavin lives on.

The outpouring that this family has received, from hundreds of comments on her blog and facebook page, to the community support has been amazing.  I am so glad for them.
I can't imagine how difficult it would be to plan a funeral for my child.

So to have Gene, from Ambler Flowers donate all the blue hydrangeas, was amazing.
I hope anyone who lives in PA or needs flowers will frequent his small business.
I even liked & commented on his fb page.

I found a friend of Kates, who had a "SuperGavin" G on her fb profile.  I took it, and posted it to mine.  I hope you do the same.  (I did message and ask)

So please, remember...childhood is only temporary.

When you find yourself getting overwhelmed, take a moment and remember, that there are strong, amazing parents like Kate, who can only wish they had that moment to be with their child...

remember superhero GAVIN.

  1. Oh my goodness, what a terrible heartache those parents are facing. And what a precious gift Gavin gave before he went to be with Jesus. I'll say a prayer for his family tonight, and I'll be squeezing my kids an extra time for good measure.

  2. I have no words, I can not imagine. Prayers being sent out. I live in Ambler and have used Ambler Flowers on occasion, will definitely make them my go-to flower shop.
