The $5 Cookbook - book review

It can be very difficult feeding a family of 4+ on a budget.  Especially when that budget is small.   I know.  I do it every month.  I won't shock you with the budget that my husband, kids and I live on, but it's small.  Trust me.
So when I came across the $5.00 Cookbook- 20 meals for $100 - Easy Dinners For Busy Families by Tiffany Wong, I knew I wanted to review it.  Ok, it was a bit selfish... I wanted access to these recipes that I could afford to cook.  So sue me!
But Tiffany understands... she's a mom, and (according to her family picture) she's got 6 kids.
Granted, the recipes feed a family of 4-6 (or more it says) so I fit right in there...but feeding 6 kids?  You can't see me, but I'm bowing in awe to her.

I've tried several of the recipes listed, and while my husband eats more than most, we were able to cook the meal as stated, for $5.  Amazing! You won't find "funky" meal ideas like pb&j sandwiches or noodle and sauce spaghetti.

Here's a few of the great recipes in the book:

Meatball Subs
Creamy Chicken Pasta
Southwest Beans & Rice
Chicken & Dumplings
Pizza Enchiladas
Zucchini & Beef Pasta
Tex-Mex Bake
Cheesy Tuna Empanadas

I am excited to continue to use the book to cook regular, healthy, inexpensive meals.

Some things you NEED to know about The $5.00 Cookbook:

The $5.00 Cookbook was written as a stepping stone for people that don’t feel like they have what it takes to cook at home. Creating meals can seem overwhelming if you aren’t comfortable in the kitchen. The best way to get over that feeling is to just jump in and start cooking. The recipes in The $5.00 Cookbook don’t require any specialized skills or knowledge, and easy for everyone to prepare. The directions are simple and easy to follow, and will take you through each recipe step-by-step.

None of these recipes are based on current sales or deals. All of the ingredients in The $5.00 Cookbook are available as store brands, and many can even be purchased from your local dollar store. You’re already busy enough with your family and work, you don’t have time to drive all over looking for the best deals just so you can make an inexpensive dinner.

The recipes can all be prepared (from start to finish) in less than 30 minutes, and many of them even less than that. If you want to spend more time around the table in the evenings, then this is a great place to start.

I am really glad that I came upon this cookbook, and know you will be too!
