Fearless -book review

How often do you think about your freedom?  How often do you think to yourself, I'm free, because of someone elses actions?  How often do you realize, that someone has died..many people have died, so that you could stand free, in your home, on your street, in your car, in your own backyard.

In Fearless, Eric Blehm writes:
When Navy SEAL Adam Brown woke up on March 17, 2010, he didn’t know he would die that night in the Hindu Kush Mountains of Afghanistan—but he was ready: In a letter to his children, not meant to be seen unless the worst happened, he wrote, “I’m not afraid of anything that might happen to me on this earth, because I know no matter what, nothing can take my spirit from me.”

You realize, you're not invicible.  When this happens in life, you change your stance, and sometimes, your beliefs.  This book, Fearless: The Undaunted Courage and Ultimate Sacrifice of Navy SEAL Team SIX Operator Adam Brown- has made me think, to the point that I've changed some of my own beliefs.  We all know that soldiers fight for us, on a daily basis.  Some of us do what we can, sending packages overseas, thanking soldiers we see on the street, etc.  But often times, it's days, months, and sometimes years pass between... and then you read something like this.  You realize, that they're doing more than putting their lives on the line for us.  They're dying for us.
This book made me appreciate life.  It made me appreciate my freedom.  My children's freedom.  YOUR freedom.

I am the first to say that I take my life and freedom for granted.  It's always been there.  There are people who can say different.  My husband, is 58.  He remembers different times.  He lived in the South.  The stories he could tell...
My husband's father just turned 87.  He lived through what most of us only read about in textbooks, only heard about in stories, and only learned about in school.
Our children come home telling stories of Martin Luther King Jr, and often, they've learned more than we forgot.
We take these for granted.  We take school for granted.  We take driving in our cars, for granted.

I bet, if you read this book.  You'd not take so much for granted.

A heroic story of one man, but the life of many.  Adam Brown was a hero.  Those in Seal Team SIX, are heros.  We owe a lot more than gratitude to them.

  1. That sounds like a worthwhile book. I served in the US Air Force and most of the time I'm aware of what people go through for our country.
